The Iridium 9555 satellite phone supports SMS-to-Email functionality, allowing you to send and receive short email messages using the phone's standard messaging features. While the 9555 does not support internet access or email apps, it can convert SMS messages to email (and vice versa) through Iridium’s global satellite network.
This guide explains how to send messages to email addresses and how others can email your Iridium phone.
Before You Begin
- Ensure you are outdoors with a clear view of the sky and not surrounded by any significant obstructions (trees, buildings, power lines).
- Extend the antenna fully.
- Wait until the display shows Registered, indicating a network connection.
Sending a Message (SMS) to an Email Address Not Stored in My Phonebook
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to Messages, then press Select.
- Scroll to Create Message, then press Select.
- Begin your message with the recipient’s email address, followed by a space, then type your message.
- To enter @, press the 1 key twice.
- Example:
johnsmith@mail.com Having a great trip!
- When finished, press Options, then select Send.
- On the Send To screen, highlight New Recipient, then press Add.
- Select Enter Number, then enter
+*2and press OK. - Press Send to deliver the message.
Sending a Message (SMS) to an Email Address Stored in My Phonebook
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to Messages, then press Select.
- Scroll to Create Message, then press Select.
- Type your message.
- Press Options, then select Send.
- On the Send To screen, press Add.
- Scroll through your contacts, highlight the recipient, and press Select.
- Highlight the email address (not the phone number), then press Select.
- Once all recipients are added, press Back, then press Send.
Receiving Messages from Email to Your Iridium Phone
Anyone can send an email to your Iridium 9555 using the following format:
Email To:8816[number]@msg.iridium.com
Example: 881612345678@msg.iridium.com
Guidelines for Sending Emails to Iridium Phones
- Do not include a
+or00prefix before the number. - Keep messages short (ideally under 160 characters). Longer messages might be sent in multiple messages.
- Avoid attachments, images, or emojis.
- Disable email signatures to prevent message delivery issues.
