Follow the steps below to place a call from your Iridium 9555 satellite phone to a cell phone.
Steps to Make a Call
- Extend the antenna fully and position the phone with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
- Power on the device.
- The display will show "Searching…" while it connects to the Iridium network.
- Wait until the display shows "Registered" and you have a solid signal (3–5 bars).

Enter the phone number in full international format using the keypad:
- Begin with + (press and hold
0) or 00 - Follow with the country code, area code, and phone number
- Example for North America:
+1 416 123 4567or00 1 416 123 4567. - Note: As you begin entering digits, you see Options displayed above the left soft key and Clear displayed above the right soft key.
- Begin with + (press and hold
- Press the green call key to dial.
- The display will show “Calling…” and then start a call timer once connected.
- To end the call, press the red key.
Example Test Call
You can test your Iridium phone by calling the free Iridium test number:

Note: Calls to this test number do not appear on monthly postpaid invoices.
Important Notes

- All outbound calls and text messages must use the full international dialing format:
+or00, followed by country code, area code, and phone number. - The country code for the USA and Canada is 1.
- All Iridium numbers begin with country code 881. When receiving a call, the number will display as
+8816xxxxxxx.

Common Error Messages
| Message | What It Means |
| Busy Try Later or Please Try Later | The phone is unable to access the network. Try again in a few minutes. |
| Could not place call. No connection to the network | The phone is unable to access the network. |
| Restricted Area | The phone is unable to access the network. |
