This guide explains how to create, send, and read SMS text messages using the Iridium 9555 satellite phone. All messaging features are accessed through the Messages menu.
Before You Begin
- Ensure you are outdoors with a clear view of the sky and minimal obstructions (e.g., trees, buildings, power lines).
- Extend the antenna and wait until the phone shows "Registered" on the screen, confirming a network connection.
Important:
- Each text message is limited to 160 characters, including spaces and punctuation.
- Multimedia messages (photos, videos, emojis) are not supported.
- Always wait for confirmation that the message was sent successfully.
Sending a Text Message
- Press the Menu key.
- Scroll to Messages and press the Select key.
- Select Create Message, then press Select.
- Use the keypad to type your message.
- Once complete, press Options, then select Send.
- Select New Recipient, then press Add.
- Choose one of the following:
- Enter Number: Type the recipient’s phone number in international format
- Format:
+ [country code] [area code] [phone number] - Example:
+1 416 253 6008
- Format:
- Or choose an existing contact from your phonebook
- Enter Number: Type the recipient’s phone number in international format
- Press OK, then press Send to transmit your message.
Read a Message
- From the Messages menu, select Inbox.
- Use the navigation key to select the message you wish to read, and select it using the left soft key.
- While reading the message, you may press the left soft key to view the Options. The options menu will allow you to:
- Reply
- Forward
- Delete
- Call Sender
