Iridium 9555 - How to Receive Text (SMS) Messages

This article explains how incoming SMS messages are delivered to your Iridium 9555 and how to access them using the phone’s menu.

How to Receive Text Messages

Friends, family, or colleagues can send SMS messages to your Iridium 9555 in two ways:

1. From a Mobile Phone

• The sender must have international texting capabilities on their mobile plan. 
• They must send the message to your Iridium number in full international format, beginning with + or 00, followed by your 8816 number.
  • Example: +8816XXXXXXX or 008816XXXXXXX

2. From the Iridium Messaging Website

• Visit the Iridium Free Online Messaging Portal.
• Enter your satellite phone number without the + or 00 prefix.
• Type their message (up to 160 characters) and submit.

What Happens When a New Message Arrives

• A message icon will appear on the screen.
• You’ll see a prompt: "New SMS, Read Now?"
  • Select Yes to open and follow the steps at "Checking the Inbox".
  • Select No to read it later.

Checking the Inbox

To access unread or saved messages:

1. Press the Menu key.
2. Scroll to Messages, then press Select.
3. Scroll to Inbox, then press Select.
4. Use the navigation keys to browse through your messages one screen at a time.
5. Press the left soft key (Read) to open a message and access additional options.
