Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required to access the Iridium Push-to-Talk (PTT) portal. MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code from your device when signing in.
This article explains how to set up MFA, choose a verification method, and manage backup codes if you lose access to your authentication device.
Tip: Setup takes only a few minutes and is required once per user.
Prepare for MFA Setup on the Iridium PTT Portal
Before enabling MFA, make sure the following requirements are met:
- Each user has their own individual login. Shared accounts are not supported
- Choose your MFA method:
- Authenticator app (recommended): Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy
- Browser extension: Use the Authenticator extension if mobile devices are not allowed
- For team accounts, assign at least two administrators to prevent lockout
Note: MFA codes are linked to the app or extension used during setup. You must use the same method each time you sign in.
Enable MFA on the Iridium PTT Portal
Follow these steps to enable MFA on your account:
Step 1: Sign In to the Iridium PTT Portal
Go to the Iridium PTT Portal, enter your username and password, and follow the prompt to enable MFA.
Step 2: Choose and Configure Your MFA Method
Select either an Authenticator App or a Browser Extension when prompted.
Using an Authenticator App:
- Open your authenticator app and add a new account
- Scan the QR code displayed on the portal or enter the setup key manually
- Enter the 6-digit verification code to complete setup
Using a Browser Extension:
- Install the Authenticator Extension
- Select Add account and scan the QR code or paste the setup key
- Enter the 6-digit verification code to complete setup

Save and Use MFA Backup Codes
After setup, you will receive two backup codes. These codes are shown only once.
- Store your backup codes in a secure location, such as a password manager
- Each backup code can be used only once
Important: If both backup codes are used or lost, you must contact an administrator to reset MFA.
The video below shows how to log in using a backup code.
Use MFA Without a Mobile Device
If mobile devices are not permitted, you can use a browser-based authenticator.
- Supported browsers: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox
- Use the Authenticator browser extension
- Generates verification codes directly in your browser
Manage MFA Access and Recovery
Use the following options to manage MFA after setup:
- Use a backup code: Enter a backup code if you cannot access your authenticator
- All backup codes used or lost: Ask an administrator to reset MFA, then set it up again
- Administrator lost access: Contact Iridium Customer Service to temporarily disable MFA
The video below shows how to reset MFA for a user.
Note: MFA can be re-enabled at any time, but you will need to scan a new QR code and generate new backup codes.
