The inReach SE and Explorer can be soft reset by holding the X and down arrow buttons until the device powers off. Once the device has powered off, use the check mark button to power it back on and return to normal function.
The inReach SE+ and Explorer+ can be soft reset by holding down the X button and power buttons together.
This key combination can be used in the following scenarios:
- The inReach device is stuck on "Sending Activation" screen after being Activated on the Explore portal
- The inReach device is frozen while powered on
- The inReach device is not frozen, but outbound messages are stuck trying to send
- The inReach device is unable to sync
- The inReach device is not powering on
A soft reset will NOT erase data on the device.
Factory Reset (Hard reset)
There may be scenarios where a soft reset will not work and a hard reset is required. A factory reset will wipe any existing data on the device. Note that all data on the Explore portal can still be synced back with a USB cable and Sync software. The device MUST be synced before you can use it again.
Factory reset via device menu:
In most cases, a Factory reset should be attempted from the device menu. Note that you cannot access the menu while the device is Suspended.
Select Settings > Recovery Options > Restore Factory Settings > Reset
Factory reset via device buttons:
The steps below should only be used if you cannot access the Settings option of your device. If your device is not suspended, you can perform a factory reset by selecting Restore Factory Settings from Settings.
For a device that is not powering on, try a soft reset that does not erase your data first.
inReach SE and Explorer: Hold down X button, DOWN arrow, and Checkmark button simultaneously. The device will enter Firmware Update mode.
inReach SE+ and Explorer+: Hold down X button, DOWN arrow button, and Power button. The device will enter Firmware Update mode.
Once in Firmware Update mode, sync the device with these instructions.
Factory reset without a PC/Mac:
You can still complete an immediate Factory Reset without a PC/Mac and the Sync software, however the device MUST be synced before you can use it again.
- Power off the inReach
- Press and hold the X, Checkmark, and Down buttons simultaneously
- The device will power on into Firmware Update Mode
- The device will power on into Firmware Update Mode
- Slide the SOS slider at the bottom of the inReach to the UNLOCKED position
- Press and hold the SOS button. Reset Factory Defaults will appear on the screen
- Press and hold the Checkmark button to start the factory reset
- Slide the lock back into the LOCKED position. Make sure that the lock is firmly in place to avoid an accidental SOS
- Sync your inReach device on the computer with these instructions.
