Your Iridium Extreme® uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that locks securely into the back of the phone. This guide shows how to correctly install and remove the battery to ensure reliable performance and prevent power interruptions.
Tip: Before installing the battery for the first time, make sure it’s fully charged using the supplied AC or DC charger.

How to Install the Battery
Unlock the battery compartment
On the back of the phone, lift the D-ring latch and rotate it 90° counterclockwise to unlock the battery compartment.
Insert the battery
Hold the D-ring upright.
Align the bottom pegs of the battery with the slots inside the compartment.
Slide the bottom edge of the battery in first.
Secure the battery
Press the top of the battery down so it sits flush with the phone housing.
Lock the battery
Rotate the D-ring 90° clockwise to lock the compartment.
Fold the D-ring flat into its stowed position.
Note: Ensure the battery is fully seated and the latch is secure. If the D-ring isn’t locked properly, the phone may lose power or shut down unexpectedly.
How to Remove the Battery
Unlock the latch
Lift the D-ring on the back of the phone and rotate it 90° counterclockwise to unlock.
Remove the battery
Starting from the top edge, gently lift the battery out of the compartment.
Stow the D-ring
Rotate the D-ring 90° clockwise back to the locked position and fold it flat.
Tip: Always power off the phone before removing the battery to prevent data loss or connection errors.
Best Practices
Avoid forcing the latch. It should rotate smoothly.
Keep the contacts on the battery and phone clean for consistent power delivery.
If storing the phone for long periods, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place (15–25 °C / 59–77 °F).
Use only genuine Iridium Extreme batteries for safe and optimal performance.
