Your Iridium Extreme® handset features two front-facing LED indicators: a Status Indicator (left) and an SOS Indicator (right). These LEDs provide quick visual cues about network status, call progress, and emergency conditions. Knowing what each LED colour and pattern means helps you respond correctly in the field.

Status Indicator LED
This LED gives you information about network connectivity and call activity.
| LED Behavior | Meaning |
| Alternating red & green | Call in progress; ringing, dialing, or in a call |
| Flashing green | Network available and SIM status OK; handset idle |
| Flashing red | No connection to the network or valid SIM required |
Tip: If the LED flashes red during an attempted call, check that your SIM is active and you have a clear view of the sky.
SOS Indicator LED
This LED signals the emergency mode status of the handset.
| LED Behavior | Meaning |
| Off | Handset not in Emergency Mode |
| Solid Red | Handset in Emergency Mode, but no emergency message has been successfully sent |
| Solid Green | Handset in Emergency Mode, and emergency message was sent in the last five minutes |
| Solid Amber | Handset in Emergency Mode, and emergency message was sent more than five minutes ago |
Important: If the SOS LED is solid amber and you’re still in the field, you should verify your position and whether the emergency message was acknowledged. Remain safe and follow your emergency protocol.
How To Use the LEDs Effectively
Before making or receiving calls, ensure the Status LED is flashing green (network ready).
If the Status LED stays red, move to a location with better sky view or check your SIM and account status.
If the SOS LED lights red or green unexpectedly, double-check that a distress message was sent intentionally.
Once an emergency call has been responded to, the SOS LED should turn off; if it remains lit, repeat the cancel routine or contact technical support.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Status LED remains red | No network or SIM problem | Check SIM validity and move to open sky |
| Status LED alternates red/green but no audio | Call attempt failed despite busy indicator | Redial; ensure your airtime account is active |
| SOS LED stays red after canceling SOS | Emergency mode still active | Go to SOS menu → Select Cancel Emergency, then confirm |
| SOS LED solid amber and no response received | Emergency message sent > 5 min ago with no acknowledgement | Verify location, try alternate contact, contact support |
