The Iridium Extreme® includes two interchangeable adapters that connect to the bottom of your phone. These adapters are required when charging, connecting the USB data cable, or attaching an external antenna. Each adapter is designed to provide a secure and reliable connection for external accessories while maintaining the phone’s rugged integrity.
Important: When an adapter is connected, the phone’s internal antenna is disabled. Do not leave an adapter attached unless you are charging or using an external antenna. Otherwise, the phone will not connect to the Iridium network.

Installing an Adapter
Follow these steps to install either adapter on your Iridium Extreme:
- Open the accessory connector cover on the bottom of the phone and fold it back to the rear retaining clip.
- Select the correct adapter and orient it so that the Iridium logo faces forward.
- Press the adapter upward until the side clasps click into place and the connection feels secure.
- Proceed with your chosen setup (charging, data, or antenna connection).
Tip: Ensure the adapter is fully locked before connecting any cables. A loose connection may prevent charging or data transfer.
Using the External Antenna Adapter
The Antenna Adapter enables you to connect the Iridium Extreme to an external antenna, improving signal reception in areas where the internal antenna is blocked, such as inside vehicles, vessels, or buildings.
Connection Steps
- Confirm the Charging, USB, and Antenna Adapter (with the TNC female port) is installed on your phone.
- Connect the external antenna cable (TNC male) to the adapter’s TNC female connector.
- Tighten the connection until snug — do not overtighten.
- Position the external antenna outdoors or in a location with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
- Power on your Iridium Extreme and check the display for strong signal bars and registration on the Iridium network.
Best Practices
- Always remove the adapter when not in use to protect the connector port.
- Keep the accessory cover closed when no adapter is attached to prevent dust and moisture entry.
- Ensure all connections are tight and secure, especially in mobile or marine installations.
- Avoid bending or pulling on cables connected to the adapter.
- Store the unused adapter in a dry, protected place.
