IMPORTANT NOTE: As of launch date the Irdium GO! exec does not support standard SMS messaging or Short Burst Data (SBD). You cannot send or receive SMS using the exec device or App. This might change with future Firmware updates.
That said, using the data connection allows Social Media and Instant Messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. that can be used for messaging. For a list of apps that have been tested with the Iridium GO! exec, please see: Iridium GO! exec - Recommended Apps
It’s important to ensure you use the most appropriate Web/App profile when making data connections, as the Web/App profile will allow you to use the Web/App profile you want to achieve and prevent other applications on your PC or smart device from also using internet data in the background.
If your messaging app is not sending/receiving messages when the mobile device is connected to the GO! exec, and the exec has full connection to the satellite, the most likely cause is the wrong data profile being selected.
To set the Web/App data profile, see: Iridium GO! exec - Internet and Connection Manager
The default Web/App data profiles include some of the most common messaging programs. That said, you might need to modify or add new profiles for messaging apps that are not included in the defaults in order to use them.
If you can’t find a suitable profile you can use the App to create a custom profile and it will be saved to your Iridium GO! exec. See Knowledgebase article: Iridium GO! exec - Creating and Managing Custom Web/App Profiles.
If all else fails, you can use the 'All Open' data profile to allow ALL data. Note that this will allow any background data on the device as well and it's use is highly discouraged except for short-term use or for troubleshooting. Data usage maybe high with this profile as all traffic is allowed.
