If you're having trouble sending SMS messages with your Iridium Extreme satellite phone, follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue. If the problem continues, our Support Team is here to help.
Solution One: Check the SMS Service Center Number
The Iridium Extreme requires a specific service center number to send text messages successfully.
- Press the Menu button.
- Select Messages, then scroll to Settings.
- Choose Service Center. The currently stored number will be displayed.

If it is missing or incorrect, enter the following number:
00881662900005 - Press OK to save.
- Try sending a new message.
Solution Two: Confirm the Dialing Format and Message Process
To successfully send a message, the phone must be registered on the network and the recipient's number must be entered in the correct format.
Before You Start
- Ensure you are outdoors, with a clear view of the sky.
- Avoid nearby obstructions such as trees, buildings, or power lines.
- Fully extend the antenna and wait for the display to show Registered.
Sending the Message
- Press Menu.
- Scroll to Messages, then press Select.
- Select Create message and press Select.
- Enter your message using the keypad. (Press the
*key for special characters.) - Press Options when done.
- Select Send and press Select.
- Select New Recipient and press Add.

Choose Enter Number and press Select.
- You can also choose a contact from the list and press Select.

Enter the full number in international format, including:
+(press and hold0)- Country code, area code, and phone number
- Example:
+1 416 253 6008
- Press Send.
Solution Three: Confirm the Issue Isn't on the Recipient's Side
- Ensure the recipient’s mobile carrier supports international SMS messaging.
- Some providers block messages from internationally formatted numbers (like Iridium numbers starting with
+8816).
