Creating a Waypoint on inReach Explorer & Explore Portal

The inReach Explorer has the ability to create and store waypoint information. Read the article below to learn how to create a waypoint via the explore.garmin.com web application or the inReach Explorer device.

The first solution will require a sync once completed. Syncing is optional for the remaining three solutions, but is still recommended. If you are outside while performing solutions 2 through 4, the waypoint will sync back to the inreach.garmin.com website automatically over the air.

Solution 1: Create a waypoint via the inreach.garmin.com web application

1. Login to explore.garmin.com
2. Click on the "Map" tab
3. Click on "New Waypoint" at the top left hand corner of the map
4. Place the waypoint flag on the desired location
5. After click on a position on the map you can then click on the reg flag icon to choose a unique icon
6. Optional: You can click on the "Lat" and "Lon" field to type in manual co-ordinates
7. Optional: You can click on the waypoint name to change the name of the waypoint
8. You can view all of your waypoints by clicking on the "Waypoints" tab on the right hand of the map screen
9. The last step is to sync the waypoint to your device via the sync app

Solution 2: Creating a waypoint on the inReach Explorer device "Map" option

1. From the home screen select the "Map" icon
2. Tap the arrow pad in any direction to reveal the arrow cursor
3. Scroll to a location and press the checkmark key
4. Press the check mark key again
5. Press the down arrow key to create a waypoint
6. A page will appear with the location information for the point selected
7. Optional: While viewing the waypoint location information you can select the waypoint name and change it
8. Optional: While you are viewing the position information you can select the red flag and change the icon
9. Press the "X" key to return to the map and see the newly created waypoint
10. You can store the waypoint on the inreach.garmin.com map by using the sync app

Solution 3: Creating a waypoint on the inReach Explorer device from a Message

1. From the home screen select the "Messages" icon
2. Select a message thread
3. Select a message within the thread
4. Scroll down to and select "More..."
5. Select "Mark Waypoint"
6. A screen will appear with the location information
7. Optional: While viewing the waypoint location information you can select the waypoint name and change it
8. Optional: While viewing the waypoint location information you can select the red flag and select a custom icon
9. You can store the waypoint on the inreach.garmin.com map by using the sync app

Solution 4: Creating a waypoint on the inReach Explorer device from the "Waypoints" option

1. From the home screen select the "Waypoints" option
2. Select "New Waypoint"
3. The device will poll your current location and save it
4. A screen will appear with the location information
5. Optional: While viewing the waypoint location information you can select the waypoint name and change it
6. Optional: While viewing the waypoint location information you can select the red flag and select a custom icon
7. You can store the waypoint on the inreach.garmin.com map by using the sync app
