Overview
If you own an Iridium Extreme® satellite phone, activating the GEOS (IERCC) SOS service is an important step to ensure global emergency support when you need it most.
GEOS provides 24/7 worldwide emergency coordination, connecting your SOS alerts to local responders once your device is properly registered.
Important:
An active Iridium SIM subscription is required to use the SOS feature.
The GEOS SOS service is not automatically activated - it must be registered and configured manually.
Make sure your device is running firmware version HL21001 or later.
Before relying on SOS, it’s strongly recommended that you test the feature (see GEOS (IERCC) SOS Guide).
Step 1: Register with GEOS (IERCC)
-
Complete the registration form with your information.
Under Device Type, select Iridium Extreme.
-
Enter your:
Iridium phone number
SIM card number
IMEI number
Add your personal details (name, address, country, and citizenship).
Provide primary and secondary emergency contacts.
Include any relevant medical information (optional but recommended).
Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email from GEOS (IERCC).
Tip: Keep your GEOS login credentials in a safe place in case you need to update your contact or medical details later.
Step 2: Configure the Iridium Extreme for GEOS (IERCC)
Once registered, you’ll need to enable the GEOS service on your Iridium Extreme handset.
When you see the message “WARNING! You have not configured GEOS Service”, press Setup.
Scroll to Use and press Select.
The screen will display “Please confirm you have registered...” — press OK.
Power the handset off, then back on.
When the phone restarts, confirm that the warning message no longer appears.
Your handset is now configured for use with GEOS (IERCC).
Note: If the warning message does not appear, you can configure GEOS manually from the main menu.
Alternative Method: Configure GEOS from the Main Menu
Go to Menu → Setup → Location Options → Emergency Options.
Scroll down to GEOS Service (last option after “Call Recipient”).
Highlight Use and press Select.
The GEOS service is now enabled on your handset.
Tip: After setup, verify that your SOS button cover is securely closed to prevent accidental activation.
Best Practices
Update your GEOS emergency contact information whenever it changes.
Ensure the antenna is fully extended before initiating an SOS alert.
Only use the SOS feature for real emergencies — false activations may delay help for others.
If you prefer not to use GEOS, configure custom emergency contacts under Menu → Setup → Location Options → Emergency Options → Call Recipient.
