Using inReach Sync
After adding or editing Contacts, QuickText, or Preset Messages on your Explore account you will need to sync your inReach to ensure the changes are accurately reflected on your device. When you sync your device with the Explore site, your Contacts, QuickText and Preset Messages, Facebook, Twitter, and MapShare details will be loaded on to your device. A micro-USB cable and PC or Mac is required for a sync.
IMPORTANT:
- The inReach Sync app is also used to update the firmware on the suite of inReach devices. Use the instructions below to update the firmware on an inReach in need of a firmware update.
- The inReach Sync app can only be installed on a Windows or Mac computer.
- The inReach Sync app cannot be installed or used on an Android, iOS phone or tablet.
- It is highly recommended to sync your inReach device prior to a trip. This ensures that your device has the latest firmware, which is important for proper satellite communications.

NOTE:
There are three kinds of sync methods that are available:
One, is when you sync wired to a computer via USB cable.
Second is when you sync through the Earthmate app. (NOTE: This only syncs Explore portal data to the App. It does not sync the inReach device.)
Third is when the device updates it set profile in a network sync (pro accounts only.)
Network sync updates the profile which is a series of controls for what feature device has access to and what those settings are. The sync that occurs through the Earthmate app syncs Contacts, Preset Messages, Quick Texts and profiles. The sync that occurs when you plug the device into a computer syncs everything above plus firmware. By default you should always use the USB sync via computer if possible.
What If My Plan is Suspended?
Only data from the account and firmware updates will sync to an inReach device while suspended.
Data recorded by an inReach device will not sync to Earthmate® or to the Garmin Explore website. Data recorded during this period will sync once the account has an active subscription.
