Placing a Test Call

Iridium Network Test Call

Customers using an Iridium handset with active service can place a test call free of charge. Note that all rentals kits are on the Iridium network. Testing your handset before travel is highly recommended to ensure your handset is fully operational when you need it.

1. Take your handset outside.

2. Extend your antenna and ensure you have a clear line of sight to the sky, preferably away from any large obstructions or heavy canopy.

3. Press and hold the power button to power on your handset. After booting up, the phone should indicate "Searching for Iridium..."

4. Wait for the handset to display "Registered". A green LED indicator will also be displayed indicating you have signal.

5. Dial the Iridium Test number: +1-480-752-5105 (press and hold 0 to obtain +) or dial 00-1-480-752-5105.

6. Press the GREEN button (or the 'OK' button on the 9505A) to initiate the call.

7. If your call is successful, you'll hear an automated greeting stating your call has been successfully connected.

8. To end a call, press the RED button.

IMPORTANT:

• All outbound calls/SMS must use full international dialing sequence as indicated above. Dial + OR 00, then [country code] [area code] [phone number]. 
• Calls to the free Iridium test number will not show up on postpaid monthly invoices under Device usage reports. 

Inmarsat Network Test Call

1. Switch on your phone by holding down the RED key for several seconds. 

2. Stand outside with a clear view of the sky and extend the antenna, pointing upwards and facing the southern horizon. 

3. Check your phone is connected to the satellite network – "Inmarsat" is displayed at the top left of the screen

4. Ensure you have at least two bars of signal strength

5. Ensure there is sufficient battery power

6. After powering on the phone you must wait (1-2 Minutes) for the phone to obtain a GPS fix prior to making calls.  This happens automatically once you extend the antenna.

7. Ensure that your phone has a GPS fix – the 'GPS fix required' icon is not displayed.

8. Dial the free test Inmarsat test number using full international dialing: +870 776 999 999 (press and hold 0 to obtain +) OR dial 00-870-776-999-999.

9. Once the number is dialed, press the Green key

10. A Calling message and the name of the person being called (if listed in your Phonebook or SIM contacts) will display on the screen. When the call is answered, the screen will show the call time in minutes and seconds. 

11. To end a call, press the RED key.

12. Switch off your phone by holding down the RED key until the screen shuts down.
